Atlantic wild white cod is among the cleanest, mildest fish you can offer a 6-month-old. Its snow-white flesh has almost no fat and a subtle, neutral flavour that babies take to easily — without the stronger taste of oily fish.

Paired with the natural sweetness of butternut squash, this purée is one of the most universally accepted first fish meals — bright, nutritious, and beautifully smooth.

🎃
Butternut Squash
80g, peeled & diced
🍼
Breast Milk or Formula
2–3 tbsp, to blend

Makes approx. 2 baby servings. Scale up and freeze the rest in ice cube trays.

How to Make

1
Steam

Place diced butternut squash and the cod fillet in a steamer basket. Steam over medium heat for 12–15 minutes, until the squash is fork-tender and the cod is fully cooked and opaque.

2
Check for Bones

Before blending, gently run your fingers over the cod fillet to feel for any pin bones. Remove all bones — this is an important safety step even with premium fillets.

3
Blend

Transfer to a blender or use a hand blender. Add breast milk, formula, or cooled boiled water one tablespoon at a time and blend to a completely smooth, silky consistency.

4
Cool & Serve

Allow to cool to a safe temperature. Offer 2–3 tablespoons to start. Refrigerate leftovers for up to 24 hours, or freeze in covered ice cube trays for up to 1 month.

Tips for Parents

First Introduction

Offer cod alone for 3–5 days before combining with other new foods. Cod allergy is uncommon but identifying any reaction early is important.

Iodine Note

Iodine in white fish supports your baby's thyroid and early metabolism. Offering white fish 2–3 times per week is a natural, food-first way to meet iodine needs.

Storage

iBuddies cod is vacuum-sealed for maximum freshness. Best consumed within 3 months frozen. Thaw overnight in the fridge — never refreeze once thawed.

No Salt

Never add salt to baby food under 12 months. Butternut squash's natural sweetness perfectly balances the clean flavour of wild cod.
