The chicken drumstick is one of the most flavourful and nourishing cuts for baby food — slow-steamed on the bone, it delivers exceptionally tender, juicy meat with a depth of flavour that purées beautifully.

Sweet carrot brings natural beta-carotene and a gentle sweetness that balances the savoury chicken perfectly. Together, they make a warm, satisfying purée that works wonderfully as a step up from simple vegetable purées.

🥕
Carrot
80g, peeled & diced
🍼
Breast Milk or Formula
2–3 tbsp, to blend

Makes approx. 2 baby servings. Freeze extras in ice cube trays for up to 1 month.

How to Make

1
Steam

Place diced carrot and the chicken drumstick in a steamer basket. Steam over medium heat for 20–22 minutes until carrot is fork-tender and the chicken is fully cooked with no pink inside.

2
Prepare Chicken

Remove the drumstick and carefully strip all meat from the bone. Discard the bone entirely. Remove any cartilage, tendons, or skin — only clean, tender meat goes into the purée.

3
Blend

Blend chicken meat and carrot together, adding breast milk, formula, or cooled boiled water one tablespoon at a time. Blend thoroughly to a smooth, uniform consistency.

4
Cool & Serve

Cool to a safe temperature. Offer 2–3 tablespoons to start. Refrigerate leftovers for up to 24 hours, or freeze in ice cube trays for up to 1 month.

Why Chicken Drumstick?

Cooked on the bone, chicken drumstick delivers more flavour, more collagen, and more iron than boneless cuts. The bone acts as a natural slow-cooker — releasing gelatin and minerals into the meat as it steams.

🩸
Heme Iron
Dark chicken meat is one of the richest infant sources of heme iron — the form most easily absorbed by babies' growing bodies to prevent iron-deficiency anaemia.
🥕
Beta-Carotene
Carrot's Vitamin A precursor supports healthy vision and immune development.
🦴
Collagen
Steaming on the bone releases natural collagen — supporting gut lining and joint health as babies grow.
🛡️
Zinc & B Vitamins
Chicken is a superb source of zinc (immune support) and B6 (brain development) — two nutrients that are hard to obtain in sufficient amounts from plant foods alone at this stage.

Tips for Parents

Bone Safety

Always strip all meat from the bone before blending — never place the bone in a blender. Run your fingers through the meat carefully to catch any small bone fragments before processing.

More Meat Per Pack

At 120g, the drumstick pack is larger than most other baby portions — one pack makes 2 good-sized baby servings, making it excellent value. The surplus freezes perfectly.

Storage

iBuddies chicken drumsticks are vacuum-sealed for freshness. Best consumed within 3 months frozen. Thaw overnight in the fridge — never microwave to thaw.

No Salt

Never add salt to baby food under 12 months. Chicken's natural umami and carrot's sweetness are all the flavour your baby needs.
