Introducing fish to your baby is one of the most nutritious things you can do at the start of weaning. Norway wild caught salmon is one of the richest natural sources of DHA omega-3 — the fatty acid that directly supports brain development and vision in the first two years of life.

Paired with naturally sweet, beta-carotene-rich sweet potato, this puree is gentle on tiny tummies and big on flavour — a perfect first fish food.

🍠
Sweet Potato
80g, peeled & diced
🍼
Breast Milk or Formula
2–3 tbsp, to blend

Makes approx. 2 baby servings. Scale up and freeze the rest in ice cube trays.

How to Make

1
Steam

Place diced sweet potato and the salmon fillet in a steamer basket. Steam over medium heat for 12–15 minutes, until the sweet potato is fork-tender and the salmon flakes easily when pressed.

2
Check for Bones

Before blending, gently run your fingers over the salmon to feel for any pin bones. Remove all bones — this is an important safety step.

3
Blend

Transfer to a blender or use a hand blender. Add breast milk, formula, or cooled boiled water one tablespoon at a time and blend to a completely smooth consistency. Adjust liquid for your baby's preference.

4
Cool & Serve

Allow to cool to a safe temperature. Offer 2–3 tablespoons to start. Refrigerate leftovers for up to 24 hours, or freeze in covered ice cube trays for up to 1 month.

Why Salmon at 6 Months?

Current weaning guidelines recommend introducing oily fish from 6 months. Early exposure helps reduce the risk of fish allergy later in life.

🧠
DHA Omega-3
The headline nutrient in wild salmon. DHA directly fuels brain growth and sharpens vision during your baby's most critical developmental window.
☀️
Vitamin D
Bone density and immune support from day one.
💪
Complete Protein
All essential amino acids for growth and muscle development.
🩷
Astaxanthin
The natural antioxidant that gives wild salmon its pink color — a marker of quality that farmed fish cannot replicate.

Tips for Parents

First Introduction

Offer a small amount on its own for 3–5 days before mixing with other new foods. This makes it easy to spot any reaction early.

Texture Guide

Blend extra smooth at 6 months. By 8–9 months, leave it slightly textured to build your baby's oral motor skills.

Storage

iBuddies salmon is vacuum-sealed for maximum freshness. Best consumed within 3 months frozen. Thaw overnight in the fridge — never refreeze once thawed.

No Salt

Never add salt to baby food under 12 months. Sweet potato's natural sweetness provides all the flavour your baby needs.
