Salmon & Veggie Mini Patties (Baby · 9m+)
Salmon & Veggie Mini Patties
Flaky wild salmon × soft potato and colourful veg — pan-fried into little patties packed with omega-3, just right for baby to grab and chew 🐟
Around 9 months, babies love picking up their own food and gumming it themselves. These mini patties use Norway Wild Caught Salmon, cooked and finely flaked, then folded through soft mashed potato with carrot and peas and pan-fried into little golden cakes — buttery salmon, sweet veg, and plenty of omega-3 for growing brains. They hold together softly so they're easy to grip and chew, and the grown-ups can share them too: crisp the edges a little, add a squeeze of lemon at the table, and it's one pan, two ways.
Ingredients
- Norway Wild Caught SalmonShop ↗ (2 packs, skin and any bones removed, cooked and finely flaked)~100 g
- Potato (steamed and mashed smooth — binds and softens)1 small
- Mixed vegetables (e.g. carrot, peas, sweetcorn — finely minced or grated)1/4 cup
- Egg (lightly beaten, helps it bind)1
- Plain or oat flour (to firm up the mix)1–2 tbsp
- Fresh dill or parsley (optional, finely chopped, for aroma)a little
- Olive oil (for cooking)a little
- Lemon wedge (optional, for adults / 1y+ at the table)to serve
Method
- Cook the salmonSteam or poach the salmon until cooked through — opaque all the way through and it flakes easily, with no translucent flesh. Remove the skin and check very carefully for any bones, then flake finely.
- Mash the potatoSteam the potato until soft and mash it smooth — it binds the patties and keeps the texture soft.
- Prep the veggiesFinely mince or grate the carrot, peas and sweetcorn. Steam firmer vegetables first, then squeeze out excess water so the mix isn't too wet.
- CombineMix the flaked salmon, mashed potato, vegetables, egg and flour until thoroughly combined and sticky enough to hold its shape.
- ShapeWith lightly wet hands, form into small flat patties about 0.5–1.5 cm thick — finger or one-bite size, perfect for little hands to grip.
- Pan-fryPan-fry gently in a little olive oil until golden on both sides. Cook until the patties are firm and heated right through and the egg is fully set — never leave them underdone.
- Cool & serveLet cool to just warm before serving. Adults can squeeze over a little lemon. Introduce one new food at a time so you can watch for any reaction.
Safety notes
- Cook salmon and egg fully — salmon opaque all the way through and flaking easily, no translucent flesh; egg fully set, never underdone.
- Check for bones and remove the skin. Salmon can hide fine pin bones — run your fingers through the flesh and pick out every one before mixing.
- Allergens: fish and egg. If either is new, introduce one new food at a time and watch for 2–3 days for any reaction.
- No added salt, sugar or honey under 1. The salmon and vegetables are naturally flavourful, so no extra seasoning is needed.
- Seasoning and lemon are for adults / 1y+ only: after you've set aside baby's portion, the grown-ups' share can be salted or given a squeeze of lemon at the table.
- Mash everything soft, keep the patties finger or one-bite size, and serve warm — baby seated upright and supervised.
Why it's great for baby
Norway Wild Caught Salmon is rich in omega-3 fatty acids (DHA) that support baby's brain and eye development, plus quality protein for growing bodies. Cooked and flaked into soft patties, it's easy to bite and swallow. Bound together with soft mashed potato and folded through carrot, peas and sweetcorn, it adds vitamins, fibre and bright colour to spark the appetite. Shaped finger-size, it's just right for baby to hold and self-feed — great grip and chewing practice.
Tips
Batch & freeze: make a few extra, cook and cool, then freeze in portions. Reheat in the microwave or back in the pan when you're short on time.
Share with adults: set aside baby's portion first, then crisp the grown-ups' share a little more and finish with salt, lemon and extra dill — one pan, two ways.
Texture by age: for younger babies, mash the potato and salmon finer and make the patties thinner and softer; for older babies, leave a few small veg pieces to practise chewing.
