When starting your baby on fish, mild white fish is often the gentlest first step. Australia wild caught barramundi has a naturally delicate, sweet flavour and very low mercury levels — making it one of the safest and most baby-friendly fish you can choose at 6 months.

Paired with soft zucchini, this purée blends into an ultra-smooth texture that tiny tummies handle with ease. A reassuring first fish for babies and parents alike.

🥒
Zucchini
80g, sliced
🍼
Breast Milk or Formula
2–3 tbsp, to blend

Makes approx. 2 baby servings. Scale up and freeze the rest in ice cube trays.

How to Make

1
Steam

Place zucchini slices and the barramundi fillet in a steamer basket. Steam over medium heat for 10–12 minutes, until the zucchini is fork-tender and the barramundi flakes easily.

2
Check for Bones

Before blending, gently run your fingers over the barramundi to feel for any pin bones. Remove all bones — this is an important safety step even with wild barramundi fillets.

3
Blend

Transfer to a blender or use a hand blender. Add breast milk, formula, or cooled boiled water one tablespoon at a time and blend to a completely smooth, silky consistency.

4
Cool & Serve

Allow to cool to a safe temperature. Offer 2–3 tablespoons to start. Refrigerate leftovers for up to 24 hours, or freeze in covered ice cube trays for up to 1 month.

Tips for Parents

First Introduction

Offer a small amount on its own for 3–5 days before mixing with other new foods. This makes it easy to spot any reaction to fish early.

Texture Guide

Blend extra smooth at 6 months. By 9–10 months, leave slightly lumpy or mash with a fork to build oral motor skills.

Storage

iBuddies barramundi is vacuum-sealed for maximum freshness. Best consumed within 3 months frozen. Thaw overnight in the fridge — never refreeze once thawed.

No Salt

Never add salt to baby food under 12 months. The natural sweetness of zucchini and the delicate flavour of wild barramundi is everything your baby needs.
