Quail Breast & Apple Purée
Quail breast is one of the leanest, most protein-dense meats you can introduce to a baby — boneless, quick-cooking, and with a delicate flavour that sits somewhere between chicken and game. Its light texture blends effortlessly into the smoothest of purées.
Steamed apple adds natural sweetness, a gentle fibre boost, and Vitamin C — which actually improves iron absorption from the quail. This is a beautifully balanced, genuinely gourmet baby meal.
Ingredients
Makes approx. 2 small baby servings. Freeze extras in ice cube trays for up to 1 month.
How to Make
Place diced apple and quail breast in a steamer basket. Steam over medium heat for 15–18 minutes until apple is completely tender and quail is fully cooked through with no pink inside.
Remove the quail breast. It is boneless, but run your fingers over the meat to feel for any small cartilage fragments before blending. Remove any you find.
Blend quail breast and apple together, adding breast milk or formula one tablespoon at a time. The apple's natural moisture gives this purée a beautifully silky texture.
Cool to a safe temperature. Offer 2–3 tablespoons to start. Refrigerate for up to 24 hours, or freeze in ice cube trays for up to 1 month.

Tips for Parents
Unlike the quail leg, the breast is fully boneless — making prep much simpler. Still check by feel before blending, but no need to strip meat from bones.
Fuji or Pink Lady apples work best — sweet enough to balance quail's subtle earthiness without being tart. Peel fully and remove all core and seeds before cooking.
Vacuum-sealed for freshness. Best consumed within 3 months frozen. Thaw in the fridge overnight before use.
Never add salt to baby food under 12 months. The natural sweetness of apple and the gentle savoriness of quail is all this purée needs.
