France Hormone-Free Quail Leg & Pumpkin Braise for Babies (10m+)
Quail Leg & Pumpkin Braise
Quail is one of the most nutrient-dense small birds you can offer a baby — higher in protein than chicken, richer in iron, and with a delicate, mildly gamey flavour that broadens palates beautifully. French quail, raised without hormones or antibiotics, is a premium choice Hong Kong parents rarely have easy access to.
Paired with golden pumpkin's natural beta-carotene and sweetness, this braise makes a genuinely gourmet baby purée — silky, vivid, and deeply nourishing.
Ingredients
Makes approx. 2 baby servings. Freeze extras in ice cube trays for up to 1 month.
How to Make
Place diced pumpkin and quail legs in a steamer basket. Steam over medium heat for 18–20 minutes until pumpkin is fork-tender and quail is fully cooked with no pink remaining inside.
Remove the quail legs. Carefully strip all meat from the small bones — quail bones are tiny, so work slowly and check thoroughly. Discard bones, skin, and any cartilage.
Blend quail meat and pumpkin together, adding breast milk or formula one tablespoon at a time. The pumpkin's natural moisture helps achieve a silky, smooth consistency easily.
Cool to a safe temperature. Offer 2–3 tablespoons to start. Refrigerate for up to 24 hours, or freeze in covered ice cube trays for up to 1 month.
Why French Quail?
Quail is a nutritional powerhouse that punches well above its small size. Gram-for-gram richer in protein and iron than chicken, with a subtle, elegant flavour that helps babies develop a broader, more adventurous palate early on.
Tips for Parents
Quail bones are very small. After steaming, strip the meat slowly and run your fingertips through the meat before blending to catch any fragments. Never rush this step.
iBuddies sources quail from France — where strict EU animal welfare and farming standards mean no added hormones or growth promotants. This is premium poultry that most Hong Kong families can't easily find elsewhere.
Vacuum-sealed for freshness. Best consumed within 3 months frozen. Thaw overnight in the fridge before cooking.
Never add salt to baby food under 12 months. The natural earthiness of quail and the sweetness of pumpkin create a beautifully balanced flavour without any seasoning.
