Vietnam Tiger Prawn & Avocado Purée for Babies (12m+)
Tiger Prawn & Avocado Purée
Prawn is a shellfish and a common food allergen. Introduce separately for the first time, offer a small amount, and observe for 3 days before introducing other new foods. Watch for signs of allergic reaction. If your baby has a family history of shellfish allergy, consult your paediatrician first.
Vietnam tiger prawns are prized for their naturally sweet, clean flavour and firm yet tender flesh. Sourced from Vietnam's warm coastal waters, they're packed with zinc, Omega-3 fatty acids, and iodine — a nutritional powerhouse in a compact, baby-friendly portion that couldn't be easier to prepare.
Avocado is the perfect partner — its creamy, buttery texture and healthy monounsaturated fats complement the prawn's natural sweetness, blending to a silky purée that is naturally rich, satisfying, and completely self-seasoned. This is one of the fastest, most nutritionally complete meals in the collection.
Ingredients
Makes approx. 1–2 baby servings. Do not freeze once made — refrigerate and use within 24 hours.
How to Make
Thaw prawns if frozen. Place in a steamer basket over boiling water. Steam for 3–4 minutes until fully pink and opaque throughout. Do not overcook. Allow to cool slightly, then peel.
Halve the avocado and remove the stone. Choose a ripe avocado — it should yield to gentle pressure. Scoop the flesh from one half.
Blend steamed prawns, avocado flesh, and 2–3 tablespoons of water until completely smooth and creamy. Add breast milk if needed to adjust consistency.
Cool to a safe temperature. Offer 2–3 tablespoons to start. Refrigerate for up to 24 hours. Do not freeze this purée once made.
Why Tiger Prawn + Avocado?
Vietnam tiger prawns deliver zinc for immune function, iodine for brain development, and lean complete protein — while avocado contributes the healthy monounsaturated fats that babies need for brain growth. Together they create one of the most nutritionally complete, naturally delicious combinations in the collection.
Tips for Parents
Shellfish is one of the most common food allergens. Introduce prawn for the first time as a standalone meal. Give a small amount (1–2 teaspoons) and wait 3 full days before introducing any other new foods. Watch for hives, facial swelling, or breathing difficulty. If your baby has a family history of seafood or shellfish allergy, consult your paediatrician before introducing.
An underripe avocado will be bitter and grainy. Choose one that yields to gentle thumb pressure with dark, almost black skin. If your avocado is not yet ripe, leave it at room temperature for 1–2 days. Ripe avocado blends to a silky cream with no added fat required.
Vacuum-sealed prawns: best consumed within 3 months frozen. Thaw in the fridge overnight before use. Once cooked and blended with avocado, do not refreeze. Refrigerate finished purée and use within 24 hours — avocado browns quickly and prawn texture degrades on refreezing.
Tiger prawn carries a natural mild saltiness, and avocado's rich, buttery taste provides all the flavour this purée needs. No salt or seasoning is required — or recommended — at any age when preparing this dish for babies.
